Grown in the Kamonyi region of Rwanda, Gihanga Coffee is produced by an association called The Gihanga Project and works in the Muhari Coffee Washing Station. The Gihanga Project provides international export and import for smallholder farms, helping to fund many community development projects focused on health, gender equity, and education.
Today, their growing initiatives are helping build a stronger female voice in the African coffee industry, and they are working to expand membership within the region. Their co-op’s journey involves challenges and rewards, currently focusing on providing medical care to families in the area. To date, more than 300 of the women on board currently receive medical insurance due to the progress of their co-op. With more efforts planned for the community, we're excited to see how far The Gihanga Project can go.
