We perceived red grapefruit, rhubarb, as well as floral notes when cupping these beans. A chocolatey aftertaste intertwined with crisp lychee acidity is what we agreed on after cupping and pondering for more than we should had to. It’s always exhilarating to surrender your mind to your senses.
The Story Behind the Perfect Cup:
Oreti is Maori for "a place of danger and raw beauty". Kenya produces some of the most exquisite coffees in the world - everything about it seems more refined, more intense, and bigger. Kenya has very unique processing techniques which contribute greatly to the quality of the cup - it is common practice to stump trees instead of replacing trees with new ones. Coffee growers will allow three main branches to grow from the stumps. They then trim the main arteries of the tree one by one to offset a total loss of production. The cycle of the branches allows for new growth on very old bones of a tree. Like grapevines ...
